Every winter, students in Frederick County have an opportunity to submit
a short story or poem as part of the State of Maryland International Reading
Association Young Author’s Contest. Then, several weeks later, a winning entry Only half a silent sun
is named in each grade level to represent Frederick County at the state level. lingers on the mountaintop
This year, Sabillasville Elementary had a third-grade student win with her
poem entry to represent Frederick County at the state level. Congratulations to momentarily

As I look out my window one cold December morning, pinkandpurpleandgold
I see a beautiful red bird gazing through the trees, allatonce commingled

As the cold winter lets out a brisk winter breeze.

The air is so cold, the ground full of snow. and the cloudless blue
                 It won’t be long before the red bird must go. stretches f a r and w i d e

I am in bed when I hear a choir singing , Half a blink we have left the ground,

“ when the role is called up yonder I’ll be there.” full blink we are right beside Him with all of you
It’s beautiful, over and over. who know where yonder is.

I see a small white church in the distance. “I go to prepare a place for you.

Escaping through the open windows, If it were not so, I would have told you.
voices in perfect harmony. For in My house are many mansions and
Large ~ tall ~ beautiful ~ green trees surround the streets are made of gold.”
the church placed by God the way He wanted.
The choir is silent now. No cars I see.

I can hear voices of old. They know. Was I here on earth or was I in yonder?
They know, for they know God is and yonder is heaven.
Let the song take you to the church
I feel the music way deep inside my spirit. in the wildwood, on the other side

The joy of their knowing brings me peace. of heaven’s gate, where the rose of
                                                    I will be in yonder.                                    Sharon is planted here and there;
The days grow closer. just past yonder.

Yonder is a word God created to beckon our spirit. I’ll be there ~

The role will be called and up we go.
