Here we are, heading into
summer, enjoying the rebirth of
nature as it awakens from the
cold chills of winter. While robins,
the master nest builders, are busy
raising their young, we, at the
Thurmont Senior Center (TSC), are
busy caring for our area seniors.
Thanks to our Coordinator Teresa,
we have lined up some noteworthy
meetings and activities and fun
things to do in the month of June.
So, check the Community Calendar
in the back pages of the Banner
and mark your calendars! Come to
TSC to partake in the activities that
interest you and will benefit you,
and have some fun, too!
The TSC dance on Saturday,
May 5, was a fun time, with the
Back Roads Band. If you missed
it, then you missed a great time
of music and “Peggy fun jokes.”
Thanks to all the volunteers who
helped at the dance and donated
food and money. Thanks to the
Mountain Gate Family Restaurant
for donating delicious chicken salad
and rolls. And, thanks to all the
attendees.
On Thursday, May 10, we
had our monthly birthday party
for May, but what made it extra
special was the presence of Beulah
Zentz, along with some of her
family members, and the fact that
she will be 102 years old on May
26. Beulah is a very special lady
to the Thurmont Senior Center
and an inspiration to us all. She
worked hard all of her life, farming,
raising a family, working at Claire
Frock, baby-sitting, working in a
restaurant—there could be more
jobs she did—and she volunteered
for many years here in the kitchen
of the Thurmont Senior Center.
Happy Birthday, Beulah!
On Saturday, May 12, we had
our Annual Birthday Party, held at
the American Legion. Thanks to
the cooks at the American Legion
for a great meal and great service.
Many thanks to Pam Robbins and
her committee for all of their hard
work in organizing everything.
Pam’s cute handmade flowers for
the tables, which were won by
lucky people at each table, were a
nice souvenir of a wonderful time.
Thanks goes out to Ron Free for
filling in lots of fun with his music
and fun jokes, which got us all

For the month of June, in
addition to our daily activities (see
the Community Calendar), Teresa
has scheduled several activities of
importance. On Monday, June 4,
from 1:00-3:00 p.m., the Cougar
Connection Group from Thurmont
Elementary School will come to play
bingo, socialize, and snack with the
year. Stop by or call to sign up for BOLLINGER HOMES, LLC
seniors for the last time this school
this fun time with the kids.
Then, on Wednesday, June 6,
stop by from 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
for a free blood pressure check,
given by Nurse Deb from Right
At Home (and share any health
concerns you may have).
Don’t forget our 50/50 Bingo on
Wednesday, June 6, from 1:00-3:00
p.m., and again on Wednesday,
June 20. Don’t forget to call a day
ahead to order lunch for $6.00
(served at noon). Bingo costs $5.00
to play twenty games, and $1.00
for the winner-take-all last game,
plus free snacks at break.
