Trees Planted at East End Park in Thurmont

Twenty-four volunteers got out bright and early on the morning of March 22 for the Spring Community Tree Planting at East End Park in Thurmont.

A demonstration on proper tree planting was conducted by Anna Twigg from the Maryland Forest Service. Twenty-four trees were planted, including American Linden, Pin Oak, Burr Oak, Sycamore, Eastern Red Cedar, and Bald Cyprus.

The 24 volunteers included local residents, children, and members of the CHS Environmental Club.

Thurmont is proud to have been recognized as a Tree City USA Community, and its volunteers continue to play a big part in that honor. The project was sponsored by the Town of Thurmont, the Thurmont Green Team, and the Maryland Forest Service.

Anna Twigg from the Maryland Forest Service starts the morning by reviewing how to properly plant trees at the Spring Community Tree Planting at East End Park in Thurmont, with Thurmont CAO Jim Humerick assisting in the demonstration.

Volunteers place wire around the newly planted trees to protect them from deer and other wildlife.
