Spring Is Blooming with Activity at the Thurmont Senior Center

March is shaping up to be another lively and engaging month at the Thurmont Senior Center! As the days begin to grow longer and we look forward to the arrival of spring, our center continues to offer a warm, welcoming place for local seniors to stay active, socialize, and try something new.
Our regular fitness programs remain a cornerstone of our monthly schedule. Strength & Balance classes are offered multiple days each week to help improve mobility, stability, and overall wellness. For those looking for a fun and upbeat workout, Zumba Gold brings music, movement, and plenty of smiles every Friday morning. We also offer Chair Yoga, which is a gentle and accessible way to increase flexibility and relaxation.
Of course, social activities are just as important as physical wellness. Our popular Cards & Games afternoons provide a chance for friendly competition and fellowship, while Manicure Mondays offer a little pampering and conversation to start the week. Bingo continues to be a crowd favorite, with our 50/50 Bingo games scheduled twice this month, giving participants a chance to enjoy the excitement while supporting the center.
March also features several special programs and events. On March 12 and March 26, our Craftin’ in the Catoctins group will be busy creating seasonal projects. Participants can also enjoy a DIY Window Herb Garden workshop on March 25. Our Solo Aging Café is on March 27, which provides an opportunity for open discussion and connection. We will also celebrate our monthly Birthday Party on March 20, honoring those celebrating another wonderful year.
In addition to activities inside the center, we are proud to serve our community through essential outreach programs. The Thurmont Senior Center provides carryout lunch delivery to homebound seniors within a six-mile radius of the center, as well as transportation for local medical appointments, grocery trips, and other essential errands. These services help many older adults remain independent and connected to the community.
As our outreach services continue to grow, we are always looking for caring and dependable volunteers to help deliver meals and assist with programs. Because we are a nonprofit, volunteers play a vital role in keeping our services running smoothly. Whether you have an hour to spare or can help on a regular basis, your time truly makes a difference. After all, many hands make light work, and every volunteer helps us reach more seniors who depend on these services.
We also invite community members to support the center by joining us for our Fundraiser Night and Bake Sale at Roy Rogers on March 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Simply mention the Thurmont Senior Center when placing your order inside or through the drive-thru, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit our programs.
The Thurmont Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lunch served daily at noon. We welcome new participants, volunteers, and visitors to stop by and see what we have to offer.
