November at the Thurmont Senior Center: A Season of Gratitude
As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m reflecting on just how special our community is here at the Thurmont Senior Center. This season is all about gratitude, connection, and sharing meaningful moments—and we’re doing exactly that every day at the center. Whether you’re stopping by for exercise, a delicious lunch, a game, or a creative project, there’s always something going on and always a smile and warm welcome waiting for you.
I’m excited to share that our Annual Raffle has officially wrapped up, and the winner of both items was a dedicated nurse from Gettysburg! Congratulations to our winner, and a big thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. I’m already looking forward to our next raffle and more opportunities to connect with this amazing community!
I’m also excited to share that we’ve added a new weekly class to our schedule this month: Chair Yoga, held every Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. This gentle, seated class is great for all levels and focuses on improving strength, balance, and flexibility in a relaxed, supportive environment.
We also have two special events this month that I hope you’ll join us for. On Tuesday, November 11, at noon, we’ll be hosting our Veterans Day Lunch to honor and celebrate those who served. Then, on Wednesday, November 19, at noon, we’ll gather for our Thanksgiving Lunch, featuring a delicious meal and lots of fellowship. Please be sure to call ahead to reserve your seat for either event—we’d love to have you.
Our regular programming continues strong through November. Balance & Strength Exercise classes are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10:15 a.m., and they’re completely free. We also have cards and games on those same days at 1:00 p.m. Bingo happens on the first and third Wednesdays, and you’ll find Zumba and Poker on Fridays.
Our fellowship groups are going strong, too. Craftin’ in the Catoctins will meet on November 6 and 20 at 1:00 p.m., and Stitch and Chat will gather on November 10 and 24 at 1:00 p.m. These are great opportunities to relax, be creative, and enjoy time with others.
We serve lunch daily at noon for just $7.00. It’s more than a meal—it’s a chance to connect and share a laugh or two. If you’d like to join us, just give us a call the day before to reserve your spot. Menus are always posted at the center, on our Facebook page, and on our website at www.thurmontseniorcenter.org.
I invite you to stop by, stay active, and enjoy the season with friends. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at 301-271-7911, follow us on Facebook, or check out thurmontseniorcenter.org for the latest updates.
Wishing you all a wonderful and warm November—I hope to see you soon!
