Thurmont Food Bank News
November is always a busy month at the Thurmont Food Bank (TFB), and this year, the cutback in food stamps is making food assistance more important than ever. Anyone in need who lives in Northern Frederick County (north of Mountaindale and Lewistown) may receive food twice a month on any Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., or on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please bring proof of residency and wait to line up until half an hour before the food bank opens.
Starting on November 6, the TFB will distribute frozen turkeys and side dishes to those already registered at the food bank. Donations of non-perishable Thanksgiving items are requested and may be dropped off in the entryway. Turkeys and perishable items may be dropped off on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please do not contribute turkeys from previous years.
Another exciting November event is Scouting for Food, which will be held on November 7 and 14. On November 7, Scouts will distribute collection bags to area homes. The donations will be collected by the Scouts on November 14 around 8:30 a.m. and delivered to the food bank, where donations will be sorted and stored for use into the winter. Donations of unexpired, unopened food will be greatly appreciated. This event is always high energy, and the Scouts, their leaders, the donors, and the parents help feed hundreds of people! If you don’t receive a donation bag or a food pickup, please drop your donation off at the food bank anytime. Throughout November, households can register
