OBITUARY

Curtis L. Powell Jr.

February 23, 1964 – December 28, 2025

Curtis L. Powell, Jr., age 61, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 28, 2025, at Autumn Lake Healthcare of Ballenger Creek, Frederick, MD, where he had been a resident since February 2021.

Curtis was born on February 23, 1964, in Waynesboro, PA. He was the son of the late Curtis L. Powell Sr. and Janice Waneta Powell.

Curtis was a 1982 graduate of Catoctin High School. He held numerous jobs during his lifetime, including McDonald’s, Cozy Restaurant, and Walmart. Curtis was an avid Pac-Man player. He took pleasure in collecting baseball cards, which contributed to his considerable knowledge of the game and most of the players. His favorite teams to watch were the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens.

Curtis was a longtime member of the Pioneer Baptist Church in Thurmont.

He is survived by his loving siblings: Linda Plumley, Kay Sims (Mike), Patty Sweeney (John), Susan Crouse (Eddie), Dave Powell (Donna), and brother-in-law Ronald Stultz. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by sisters, Pamela Willard and Diana Stultz, and brother-in-law Bill Plumley.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff and his countless wonderful friends at Autumn Lake Healthcare of Ballenger Creek. They also express sincere gratitude to his many faithful friends and church family for their visits, phone calls, and cards. Curtis was surely touched by these kind gestures.

Family and friends gathered at Pioneer Baptist Church, 13802 Long Road, Thurmont, MD 21788, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., at which time a funeral began. Pastors Stanley Wilson and James Coblentz officiated. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Pioneer Baptist Church and mailed to the address above.

Arrangements were by Hartzler Funeral Home, Woodsboro.

We would like to express our heartfelt “Thanks” for the unwavering support we received during the recent death of our brother, Curtis L. Powell Jr.  Many, many thanks for the cards, visits, and prayers.

A special “Thank You” to Scot Michaels and his other classmates for their innumerable tributes of compassionate words of sympathy for Curtis on Facebook and Instagram pages.

It brings us much joy in knowing that Curtis touched so many lives in his lifetime.
