Regis Eugene “Gene” Miller

September 26, 1942 – May 30, 2026

Regis Eugene “Gene” Miller passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the age of 83.

Gene was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Emmitsburg, Maryland, by his loving parents, Regis and Margaret Miller. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Mount St. Mary’s University before completing his MBA at the University of Maryland.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he began his federal career with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms before later joining the United States Treasury Department, where he served for many years. Upon retirement, Gene and his wife, Patty, made their home in Garner, North Carolina.

Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his generous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. An avid follower of current events, Gene was always well-informed and enjoyed harmless banter and spirited conversations about the issues of the day. A lifelong Washington Redskins fan, Gene remained fiercely loyal to his team and never quite accepted the name change to the Commanders—a stance that family and friends came to know well and smile about.

Gene’s warmth, wisdom, wit, and quiet strength touched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be remembered fondly by family and friends alike.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patty” Miller; his son, John-Marc Regis Miller and wife Rachel Miller; his daughter, Vanessa Nesspor and husband Mike Nesspor; and his sister, Kathi Knier and husband John Knier. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Logan and Anna Johnson, and Madison and Reagan Miller.

Gene is further survived by his nieces, Taylor Knier Turner and husband Matt Turner, and Abigail Knier Quarles and husband William Quarles; his nephew, Jack Knier; and his nephew, Frederick Knox and wife Marcie Knox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Regis and Margaret Miller; his sister, Pamela Knox; and his niece, Jennifer Knox.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul Street, Emmitsburg, MD 21727. Reception will follow immediately; details to come.

Gene will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

The family suggests that those wishing to honor Gene’s life consider making a memorial donation to Mount St. Mary’s University Accounting Student Scholarship Fund or to InRearchNC.org.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
