Staying Active As You Age Can Be Fun
If you are a 50-plus years of age and enjoy competing in your favorite sport, you are invited to prove your athletic ability at the National Senior Games. This is exactly why Jeanne Angleberger stays physically fit!
Jeanne had the opportunity to participate in the National Senior Games in Des Moines, Iowa, this summer. There were over 12,000 athletes participating in 20-plus sports at the games.
Jeanne plays basketball in the guard position. She loves the sport! She played basketball in her high school years at Emmitsburg High School.
What makes these years more exciting on the basketball court, Jeanne shared, is that she continues to shoot hoops during her senior years. “Practicing shooting, maintaining upper body strength, and staying active is the key to aging well. You can be vibrant at this age!” said Jeanne.
This year, Jeanne had the opportunity to join ladies in their 80s at the national games. Two teams came together to compete and make a stronger team.
“Our team’s age division was 80-84 years of age. If you believe women in their 80s are not aggressive, trust me, they are! Particularly on the basketball court!” said Jeanne. “Proudly, we earned a Bronze Medal in the basketball competition.”
Jeanne encourages seniors to get active. “Make these years your best years!” she said. She wants to inspire other seniors to get involved in sports in which they can compete throughout their maturing years.
“Yes, it takes effort! And, it takes finding the right sport for you! You’ll be glad you did!” expressed Jeanne.
