National Night Out Draws Crowds
Alisha Yocum
Fun and excitement filled the air as community members came together to celebrate National Night Out on August 5, an annual event designed to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and local law enforcement.
Matt Peskin established National Night out in 1984 in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first event involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states and has since grown to 3.8 million neighbors and 17,000 communities across all fifty states.
Both the Town of Thurmont and The Town of Emmitsburg hosted events where families enjoyed an evening filled with activities, music, and food while connecting with first responders, community organizations, and local leaders. The events not only provided entertainment but also emphasized the importance of building safer, more united neighborhoods through partnership and communication.
