Milestones and Visiting Angels

Lion Ruth Heaney

Life is filled with milestones, beginning with being born. From there, an explosion of milestones occurs, including taking your first step and saying your first word, which may sound a bit garbled! A milestone for parents is when diapers are no more! Daycare or school marks another milestone, as you learn to adapt to new surroundings. You may remember many firsts: your first pet, your first friend, your first teacher, your first love. There is learning to drive and sitting behind the steering wheel of your first car. Leaving home and getting a paycheck.

Firsts of the good kind and not-so-good kind can happen at any age. There can be relationship disappointments, failure at a project, or becoming ill for a short or long time period and not knowing what to do. All of us have been through these milestones in one way or another.

The Thurmont Lions Club is pleased to announce Michelle Gilfus (pictured above), Visiting Angel’s assistant director, as the guest speaker on April 23, at 6:30 p.m., in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Ms. Gilfus will answer your questions about help and specific care for all ages provided by the Visiting Angels. Questions are encouraged and welcomed by a 10-year Veteran caring for others.

Visiting Angels is a worldwide company, providing non-medical, in-home care for older adults and disabled adults. There are 784 franchises in the continental United States. Fortunately, Visiting Angels has a franchise office in Waynesboro, serving Hagerstown, Thurmont, Brunswick, Boonsboro, Maugansville, and surrounding areas. The Angels provide multiple services: home respite, transition, and palliative care, as well as Alzheimer’s, companion, dementia, and fall prevention care. Visiting Angels can help qualified eligible Veterans for home care through the Veteran’s Administration.

Speaking of all ages: the Lions Club is one for all ages! We welcome the town and there is no charge. Come join us as Ms. Gilfus shares the goodness of Visiting Angels, which may be appropriate for all of us at one time or another.
