Juanita Jane Myers Bowers

Juanita Jane Myers Bowers, age 87, of Walkersville, MD, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at her home. She was born on October 16, 1937, in Emmitsburg, MD, and was the daughter of the late Charles F. Myers and Helen Stonesifer Myers.

Juanita graduated from Thurmont High School in 1955 and from Hagerstown Business College in 1957. She worked at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for 25 years. She and her husband Harold (Buzz) owned and operated the Carriage House Candy & Bake Shop in Mt. Pleasant for 25 years. Juanita was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick. She was a 60-year member of Frederick Chapter No. 79, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as secretary for more than 10 years. Juanita served as the Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Eastern Star from 1979-1980. She also served several years as a state officer and on many committees in the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold “Buzz” Lee Bowers, whom she married on May 30, 1957; also by two sisters, Rebecca Linton and husband Donald of Frederick and Gladys Baker and husband James of Taneytown; two brothers, C. Rodman Myers of Thurmont and Lyman Myers and wife Connie of Frederick; and many loving nieces and nephews who were a great part of her life. She was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Angleberger and husband Kenneth; brother, Eugene Myers and wife Carol; sister-in-law M. Jean Myers and nieces Patricia Johnston and Emma Baker.

Juanita always loved to cook and bake, beginning on the farm as a teenager. She was proud of the Carriage House Candy & Bake Shop and all of their employees. She was proud of her recipe book, “A Taste of Carriage House,” which was published in 2006. Juanita was known for her beautifully decorated cakes and wedding cakes. She also loved to cook and bake for Frederick No. 79, OES, and chaired many dinners, soup sales, and fundraisers over the years. She loved playing cards, camping, and traveling in their 5th-wheel camper.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June 17, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 Church St., Frederick.
