September 5, 1923 – September 24, 2025
Gloria Rose Joy Martin Bauerline, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into God’s eternal care on September 24, 2025, at the age of 102.
Born on September 5, 1923, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, she was the eldest of ten children of the late Hubert and Gertrude Joy. A proud graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Class of 1941, Gloria remained devoted to her Catholic faith and her community throughout her long life.
Gloria dedicated more than 40 years of service to Mount St. Mary’s University before retiring in 1989. She was a devout Catholic, active in both St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Bonneauville, PA. She was also a faithful member of the St. Joseph’s Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In her personal life, Gloria was twice widowed. She shared 23 years of marriage with William M. Martin, the father of her four sons, and later, nearly 27 years with Andrew J. Bauerline. She was predeceased by her sons Anthony “Tony” and William “Gene” Martin, and is survived by her sons Dennis “Denny” and his wife, her beloved daughter-in-law, Carol, as well as her youngest son, Bruce.
Gloria’s deep roots in Emmitsburg shaped her character and values. Devoting more than 75 years to the organization, she was the last living charter member of the Emmitsburg VFW, a role she held with great pride, as it reflected her lifelong commitment to service.
She is survived by two brothers, Donald “Don” and Michael “Mike” Joy, and was predeceased by her siblings Robert “Bobby,” John “Johnny,” Joseph “Joe,” James “Kenny,” Francis “Jerry,” William “Patrick,” and Margaret “Dolores” Henke.
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her grandchildren, Robin M. Dowling and Cory M. Martin; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Collin Dowling, and Kaylee Martin; her godson and nephew, Dr. Robert J. Henke Jr., and his wife, Kathy Staub; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, including Shannon Boyle and Debbie Hobbs.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg, PA, for the compassionate care Gloria received during the three years she resided there.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith; her dedication to family; and her warm, welcoming spirit.
