Emmitsburg Initiates Neighborhood Meals Initiative

Jennifer Joy

The vibrant community of Emmitsburg is uniting to extend a helping hand to its residents. Beginning on March 12, the Neighborhood Meals Initiative will generously offer a complimentary sit-down dinner at the VHC Activities Building, located on Creamery Road in Emmitsburg. This event will take place every second Wednesday of the month, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., inviting everyone to gather around the dinner table.

In recent months, local civic and religious organizations have engaged in meaningful discussions with Emmitsburg Mayor Frank Davis, brainstorming effective ways to support community members and those in need who are grappling with the rising costs of living, particularly the burdensome inflation of food prices.

The Neighborhood Meals Initiative aims to provide not just a nourishing meal, but also a warm, friendly atmosphere where residents can connect and share in the spirit of community.
The initiative aims to empower local organizations to take the lead each month in financing and providing nutritious meals for the community. The inaugural meal will be hosted by the Town Staff on March 12, where community members are invited to gather and enjoy a shared dining experience. In addition, the mayor, in collaboration with the Neighborhood Meals committee, is currently working to schedule each volunteer organization. The town hopes that everyone will support and participate in this endeavor.
