Emmitsburg 50+ Center
BY Caitlyn Kirby
Happy New Year to all! Start your year off right at the Emmitsburg 50+ Community Center (A.K.A The Senior Center). Staying active is key to healthy aging. Try out gentle exercise to video daily at 9:15 a.m., or Chair Yoga on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. with Christina (try your first class for free). Unrulies Pickleball continues on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. Intermediate pickleball is on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Thursdays at noon.
We are also continuing Lunch Bunch every week on Mondays at noon. Reserve by Wednesday for a nutritious meal with friends. We also have coffee on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m., so drop by for a drink and a chat.
Also this month, you are invited to attend a focus group with MGT Consultants to share your vision for 50+ Community Centers of the future. The consultants will be meeting with constituents all over the County to gather input on what YOU want to see in future senior centers. Your thoughts are important to guide future senior centers in Frederick County! The focus group will be at Emmitsburg 50+ Center on January 21 at noon. If you cannot make it in person, there will be sessions on our Zoom on January 21 at 6:00 p.m. or January 22 at 3:00 p.m. For the Zoom link, please email VirtualSeniorCenter@FrederickCountyMD.Gov.
There are also opportunities for hands-on activities this month. On January 14, we will be making gelatin bird feeders ($2.00). On January 21, follow along with our demo to make your own mini-trifle dessert ($6.00). Please contact the center if you would like to attend to ensure supplies.
We hope to see you at an upcoming program! For details on all of these activities, you can visit our site at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/Virtual50, and we’re always happy to answer any questions by phone, email, or in person—just drop by!
We also welcome your suggestions, because we’re here to serve you and make the center a place where everyone feels at home. Find us at 300 S. Seton Avenue, Lower Level. Call us at 301-600-6350 or email EmmitsburgSeniorCenter@FrederickCountyMD.Gov.
