Emmitsburg 50+ Center
BY Caitlyn Kirby & Lori Littrell
We are delighted to invite you to visit the Emmitsburg 50+ Center this month to embrace a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle through engaging activities, supportive resources, and a welcoming community. From creative workshops to lively games, fitness classes, and cozy social gatherings, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.
Our special event this month is the Friendsgiving Luncheon at Vigilant Hose Activity Building on Thursday, November 20, at 11:30 a.m. Gather with friends to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving lunch, provided by Mountain Gate Restaurant. Enjoy a musical performance by Liz Ruffner, Patsy Cline Tribute Artist. The cost is $20.00 per person. Register by Thursday, November 13. Grab your tickets today!
We are also going on an outing this month to Warehouse Cinemas in Frederick on November 19. The cost is $20.00 per person and includes a movie ticket, transportation, a small popcorn, a drink, and a fruit snack. Bring additional money for concessions.
There is also an opportunity to give back and spread cheer to our homebound Meals on Wheels clients throughout the county. We are accepting donations of new or unused items such as soaps, tissues, socks, toothbrushes, hats, gloves, puzzle books, notepads, pens, throw blankets, individually wrapped snacks, etc. Items can be placed in the drop box in the hallway outside the Emmitsburg 50+ Center. We thank you for your generosity!
We also have some opportunities to be creative this month. On Wednesday, November 5, we will be upcycling bottle caps into flowers. Then, on November 12, come join us to make your own English muffin pizzas. On November 18, in the morning, come in for dollar craft day, or join us in the afternoon for an art class taught by Dorothea Barrick, where you will use ink, calligraphy brushes, and rice paper to create Asian style artwork.
To get your exercise in, we have Chair Yoga on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. Chair Yoga is a gentle, therapeutic, and inclusive variation of yoga. Poses are done while seated or with the help of a chair. Chair Yoga is often recommended for those who find traditional yoga challenging. Try out your first class for free to see if it’s for you! Or you can join the library for a gentle walk around town, where you can talk about your current reads and learn something new about a local business. This month’s walk is on November 13 at 10:30 a.m. Meet at the senior center. As always, drop in for daily exercise to video at 9:15 a.m. or Unrulies Pickleball on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m.
We welcome you to join us on Mondays at noon for the Lunch Bunch for a nutritious meal and camaraderie. This month, we have a bonus Lunch Bunch on Tuesday, November 25, for Thanksgiving. Just be sure to reserve your meal by Wednesday for the next week. We hope to see you there!
