Happy brain, happy YOU! Spring into movement this May!
In April, we enjoyed a new program, the Creative Movement Workshop from ClancyWorks Dance Company, which will be continuing this month on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. This gentle movement, light singing, and fun activity helps create new pathways and strengthen existing connections in your brain, leading to better cognitive function overall. Singing and breathwork can improve brain function by enhancing cognitive control, reducing stress, and improving emotional regulation. Even an hour of social interaction can positively impact both brain and body health. Socializing stimulates the brain, improving memory and cognitive function. It also promotes a sense of well-being, reduces stress, and can even strengthen the immune system. Contact the center to sign up today!
Opportunities for arts and crafts this month include the craft of the month: marbled clay trinket dish ($5.00) on May 7. Also, our art instructor, Dorothea Barrick, will be teaching a spring animals in watercolor class on May 19 ($15.00). Then, the Emmitsburg Lions Club will join us on May 20 for a free closed terrarium craft!
Join us for ongoing fitness opportunities, like daily exercise to video at 9:15 a.m.; open gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 a.m.; or Unrulies Pickleball on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. You can also drop in for a relaxing session of Chair Yoga with Christina on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. for just $4.00 per class.
In May, Maryland Legal Aid will be joining us two times. May 1 is Law Day, when you can make an appointment to speak with an attorney to review your Advance Directive, a vital document to have in the event of a medical emergency. Call 301-600-6350 to make an appointment. If you missed Law Day, Legal Aid will be back on May 21, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, for a drop-in intake clinic for an array of legal issues. For a copy of the calendar, stop by the senior center at 300 S. Seton (lower level) or visit our website at frederickcountymd.gov/virtual50. You can also call us at 301-600-6350. We would love to see you at one of our upcoming programs.
