CYA Football & Cheer Hosts First “CYA Gives Back Day”
The Catoctin Youth Association (CYA) Football & Cheer program has been hard at work this season—not just on the field, but in the community as well. This fall, the organization launched its first-ever “CYA Gives Back Day,” an initiative designed to teach young athletes the importance of generosity, community service, and gratitude.
The event, organized by the CYA Special Events Committee, encouraged each division to select a local cause meaningful to them. Teams created themed-raffle baskets, with proceeds donated to the organizations they chose to support.
During halftime at each game, teams presented a certificate of appreciation to a representative from their selected nonprofit. These presentations also highlighted the impactful work each organization is doing across the Catoctin community and beyond.
In total, over $2,500 was raised through the effort, which will directly support the local nonprofits and community programs.
The following organizations were supported through this year’s CYA Gives Back Day: Youth Flag: National Fallen Firefighters Foundation; Mini-Pony: Frederick County Therapeutic Riding Program; Pony: Special Olympics of Frederick County; JV: 1st Lt. Robert Seidel III Wounded Soldiers Fund; Varsity: Jake Baker 27 Fund; Girls Flag: Girls on the Run of Mid & Western Maryland.
With the success of its first event, CYA Football & Cheer hope to make “CYA Gives Back Day” an annual tradition, as it works to strengthen connections with the community.
