Catoctin Lady Cougars Head to Playoffs

Catoctin Girls Basketball Lady Cougars defeated Williamsport 43-39 to win the CMC Championship on Tuesday, February 25. The win improves their record to 17-6 on the season heading into the playoffs. 

Cougars came out running in the first quarter, pulling ahead for a 15-10 lead. In the second quarter, they had some foul trouble and cold shooting, only scoring 6 points, as Williamsport took the lead going into halftime, 22-21. 

The Cougars’ defense stepped up in the third quarter, as they held the Wildcats to 8 points, while gaining the momentum back and taking a 6-point lead, 35-29.

The fourth quarter saw Williamsport come back to cut the lead to one point, 36-35. Brooke Williams hit a running one-handed shot and made four out of four foul shots to seal the win, 43-39. Cougars made 13-19 free throws in the game. 

Brooke Williams led the team with 22 points. Kelsey Troxell once again had a double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Hoyt pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds and added 3 assists. Bekah Zentz had 4 assists and held Williamsport’s top scorer to just 3 points.  At the time of publication, the Cougars are set to play the winner of South Carroll vs. Brunswick
