Catoctin High School Student Earns Silver at National SkillsUSA Competition

Tanner Shorb, a student at Catoctin High School, recently competed in the 62nd Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The NLSC is the nation’s largest workforce development event for students enrolled in public career and technical education programs. The SkillsUSA Championships features over 6,700 competitors in 114 hands-on skill and leadership contests.
Shorb competed at both the local and regional levels before advancing to the state competition in welding. After winning the gold medal at states, Shorb advanced onto the national competition, testing his skills against the best in the nation.
During the national competition, Shorb took home the Silver Medal in Welding.
“Tanner is at that point in his development where his outstanding work ethic aligns with an exceptionally high level of skill,” said Frederick County Public School Career and Technology Center Welding Teacher Tim Bromhal.” Among his many metalworking talents is blacksmithing, a skill that has already earned him summer employment with Baltimore Knife and Sword.”
