A Stellar Season for Catoctin Rec Softball

Catoctin Rec Council (CRC) Softball wrapped up a very successful spring despite being one of the soggiest seasons in memory. This year, CRC fielded teams at all age groups: 8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U, with over 80 girls from the area. The teams played groups throughout the Frederick County Girls Softball League, including Middletown, Carrol Manor, Urbana, Libertytown, Frederick, Walkersville, Araby, and LUYAA.
On May 3, CRC had its fourth annual Hit-a-Thon family picnic at the Thurmont ball fields. It was a fun day of face painting, cornhole, good food, and of course, the Hit-a-Thon itself. The girls competed in fun events for various prizes, from a new iPhone 16 to trips to gift cards. The event raised over $10,000, which will be used to complete the construction of a new pitching tunnel and hitting stations for the girls at the new illuminated softball field. The winners of the Hit-a-Thon were: 8U Distance Winners — 1st Emerson Rickerd, 2nd Maryn Bowlus, 3rd Lilian Hartman; 10U Distance Winners — 1st Allison Jenkins, 2nd Kinsey Bowlus, 3rd Addison Wilhelm; 12U Distance Winners — 1st Alayna Conrad, 2nd Brantley Miesner, 3rd Arabella Contrell; 15U Distance Winners — 1st Aubree Eyler, 2nd Scarlette Riffle and Sarah Crummit and Savanah Phebus and Abagail Balsley, 3rd Madilynn Hollingshead and Lilly Coblentz; Overall Sponsor Winners — 1st Kinsey Bowlus (selected a two-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge with her family), 2nd Adalyn Eaves (selected a $250 Amazon gift card), 3rd Delanie Pickett (selected a $100 Amazon gift card).
In the post-season, CRC captured four of the seven available County Championships. The Weiland 10U team won the Bronze Championship, the Schildt 12U team won the Silver Championship, the Gallion 15U team won the Silver Championship, and the Randall 15U won the Gold Championship.
Many thanks to the coaches, players, parents, and sponsors for a great season. CRC would also like to thank the Town of Thurmont for the exceptional care and dedication they take in keeping the softball fields in great condition.
