
A National Park Service Expert is Coming to Thurmont Lions Club

Here is another trivia question: How many national park sites are in the United States?
Answer: There are 433 national park sites.
The National Park System encompasses 433 national park sites in the United States. One of the 433 National Park Systems is the Gettysburg National Military Park. According to www.nationalparks.org, Gettysburg National Military Park “…was the site of the largest battle ever waged during the American Civil War.” It was on November 19, 1863, that President Abraham Lincoln gave his consequential “Gettysburg Address” during the dedication ceremony for Soldiers’ Cemetery.
Christopher Gwinn (pictured above) will be the Thurmont Lions Club guest speaker at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 15 N. Church Street in Thurmont, on February 12, at 6:30 p.m.
Presently, Gwinn is Chief of Interpretation and Education at Gettysburg National Military Park. He has worked as an Interpretive Park Ranger at Antietam National Battlefield, Boston National Historical Park, the National Mall and Memorial Parks, where he created some of the first public programming conducted at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
