“The Beauty of the Shift”
The end of daylight savings time
A day to remember the dead.
Running to the bus stop
The puddles splashing as you tread.
The mornings are always quiet,
The evenings are always dark.
Sometimes you’ll see daylight
And the sun will leave a mark.
Grass is never dry a green
Leaves have started to die.
Trees stand there bare and cold
And the flowers don’t even try.
The wind is cold and bites your nose
You sniffle while you shake.
Your porch pumpkins start to wilt
And you see a small white flake.
The shift is very visible.
The switch is crossing the bridge.
When the clouds reveal the sky again
Our eyes will see the ridge.
You’ll lose the smell of the pumpkin patch
You’ll hear the incoming bells,
You’ll taste the savory turkey meal
You’ll stand as your smile swells.
Your heart will give you warmth,
Your head will give you time
You body will feel nostalgia
You’ll feel it in your mind.
Take your time when crossing seasons
The bridge is longer than you think.
November is break for you
And it’s longer than a blink.
Let the quiet consume your soul
Let the death allow you to cope,
Let the cold hold you gently
Let November give you hope.
