From Two Kittens to a Growing Rescue

The Story of Jellybean Rescue

What started in October 2023 with just two kittens and a simple idea has grown into a local rescue, caring for more than 40 cats and kittens. Jellybean Rescue was founded with the intention of fostering just a few kittens at a time and helping them find loving homes. But as anyone involved in animal rescue quickly learns, plans have a way of changing when there are cats in need.

“Just two kittens” soon became more, and the small fostering effort grew into Jellybean Rescue, an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Rocky Ridge.

Today, the rescue focuses on friendly cats and kittens, providing them with a safe place to stay while they wait for their forever homes. Before adoption, the cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated, helping give each one a healthy start with their new family.

In its relatively short history, Jellybean Rescue has already helped more than 250 cats and kittens find adoptive homes. At any given time, there can be more than 40 cats and kittens in the rescue’s care, each requiring daily feeding, cleaning, socialization, and plenty of attention. For the people involved with Jellybean Rescue, that personal attention is an important part of the work. Rescue isn’t simply about providing food and shelter; it is also about helping cats feel safe, loved, and ready to become part of a family.

Volunteers are an important part of making that possible. Whether it is helping with daily cleaning and feeding or taking time to play with and cuddle the cats, those seemingly simple moments can make a big difference to an animal waiting for a home.

What began with two kittens has grown into a much larger commitment to the cats of the community. And while the number of cats needing help continues to change, the goal remains the same: to give friendly cats and kittens the care they need and the opportunity to find loving, permanent homes.
