Our club has been bustling with activities this spring and summer.
We had a large turnout on March 15, as we enjoyed a fun afternoon of pizza and bowling at Walkersville Bowling Lanes. Many thanks to the following businesses that donated gift cards to our club for door prizes: Old Towne Restaurant (Woodsboro), Mason Dixon Mixin (Emmitsburg), Bollinger’s Restaurant (Thurmont), Ace Hardware (Thurmont), Chick-fil-A (Monocacy Blvd.), Southern States (Woodsboro), Trout’s Jubilee (Emmitsburg), and Texas Roadhouse (Frederick). Also, a special thanks goes out to Paul and Donna Inskeep for their generous gift donations to recognize the members’ 2025 achievements.
Lewistown Mt. View 4-H Club held its annual club awards banquet at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant on April 20. Fifty-eight adults and 49 youth savored a bountiful buffet of food prior to the awards being presented.
The Cloverbuds received recognition for their attendance, followed by a presentation of gift cards to all members who completed a 2025 Record Book or Project Record. A gift bag was given to welcome newly joined 4-H members to our club. Congratulations to Ada Spencer, who received the Unsung Hero award. The club presented Mrs. Donna Inskeep and Mrs. Cheryl Lenhart with special gifts to recognize their retirement from 4-H leadership.
Lewistown Mt. View 4-H Club was also delighted to have our special guests in attendance this year to help us celebrate our achievements. Thank you to Peggy Long (a former leader of our 4-H club for 60+ years) and Erin Kline (4-H Educator) for joining us on this special evening.
Numerous members were invited to attend the Frederick County 4-H Achievement Night on May 9 at the 4-H Camp Center, where they received certificates and awards for their outstanding 4-H accomplishments throughout 2025. The club’s community service project for May was the donation of supplies to the Frederick County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program to assist them in rebuilding their program after their devastating fire.
A fair decoration committee was formed at our June 15 meeting in preparation for the upcoming 2026 fair. The club voted to make a monetary donation to the Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show in memory of C. Rodman Myers, who passed away on April 23, 2026. C. Rodman Myers was the president and co-founder of the Community Show 70 years ago!
Members brought supplies to the June meeting to be donated to the Jellybean Cat Rescue in Rocky Ridge.
While patrolling the town park, Thurmont Officer Kyle Minnick stopped by for a surprise visit during a member’s cow demonstration.
Lewistown’s July 20th meeting was held at the 4-H camp center, followed by a pool party. Everyone enjoyed swimming and eating pizza that was provided by the club. The club was scheduled to appear in the Walkersville and Thurmont Fire Company parades on July 3 and July 9. Unfortunately, due to excessive heat and inclement weather, we were unable to participate in either of them. We look forward to being in both next year.
A practice/preview show was held at Eyler’s Stables on August 8 and 9. This event provided a learning opportunity for 4-H members to practice their showmanship while in the show ring. There were also workshops, crafts, and an Ag Olympics. Although it was a hot day, everyone enjoyed working with their animals and having a chance to practice in the ring before the upcoming Community Show and Fairs.
The weather cooperated on August 12, and we were able to participate in the Rocky Ridge Fireman’s Parade. Club members had a lot of fun throwing candy out during the parade. We are proud of our 4-H float that won second place for the best-appearing youth float! Our meeting on August 17 was held at the Thurmont Community Park, and members brought non-perishable foods to be donated to the Emmitsburg Food Bank.
There will be no club meeting during the month of September, as everyone is busy showing and exhibiting at the Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show and The Great Frederick Fair.
The Lewistown Mt. View 4-H Club welcomes new members to join our club. Our next meeting will be held on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Graceham Moravian Church (lower-level fellowship hall).
