Thurmont Senior Center

August brings creativity, music, and community to the Thurmont Senior Center.

Summer may be winding down, but the fun is still going strong at the Thurmont Senior Center! August is filled with opportunities to stay active, learn something new, get creative, and enjoy the company of friends—old and new. Whether you’re already a regular at the center or have been thinking about stopping by for the first time, there’s never been a better time to see what we’re all about.

One of the biggest highlights this month will be our special performance by Celtic Pierogi on Wednesday, August 26, at 1:00 p.m. This talented Frederick-based group combines lively Celtic and folk music with storytelling, comedy, audience participation, and energetic clogging to create an entertaining afternoon that’s sure to leave everyone smiling. It’s a unique performance you won’t want to miss!

Creativity continues to flourish through our popular Craftin’ in the Catoctins gatherings, where participants enjoy making seasonal home décor and unique handmade projects.

Looking to stay active? Our fitness schedule offers something for everyone. Strength & Balance classes are held throughout the week to help improve mobility and confidence. Chair Yoga provides a relaxing way to stretch and strengthen. We’re also thrilled to continue offering free Zumba Gold every Friday at 9:30 a.m. through the end of August.

Friendly competition is always on the calendar with our twice-monthly 50/50 Bingo, along with card games, Stitch & Chat, and plenty of opportunities to socialize. We also celebrate our August birthdays with our monthly birthday party on Friday, August 21, because every birthday deserves to be celebrated with friends.

Throughout the month, we’ll also welcome special guests and educational programs. On Tuesday, August 4, we’ll host a presentation on “The Life of Jesus.” On Friday, August 28, our Solo Together gathering offers friendship, conversation, and support for those aging independently.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for our monthly Roy Rogers Bake Sale Fundraiser on Thursday, August 13, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. As a nonprofit organization, fundraisers like these help us continue providing quality programs, activities, transportation services, and a welcoming place where older adults can stay active and connected. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our community.

The Thurmont Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for adults 55 and older. Lunch is served daily at noon for just $7.00, with reservations requested in advance. We also provide home-delivered lunches and transportation services for eligible seniors within our service area.

Whether you’re interested in fitness, crafts, educational programs, music, games, or simply spending time with friends, you’ll find a warm welcome waiting for you at the Thurmont Senior Center.
