Thurmont High School Alumni Annual Banquet

The annual banquet and meeting of the Thurmont High School Alumni Association was held at the Rocky Ridge Fire Company Activities building on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 3;00 p.m. There were 147 in attendance.

President Ron Pearcey (‘64) welcomed everyone at 4:00 p.m. and led the pledge to the flag, followed by Richard Troxell singing the National Anthem. The invocation was given by Ernest Rice (‘55).

The delicious meal of turkey and oysters was served by the auxiliary members and some fantastic young helpers.

The Scholarship Award recipients for 2026 were: Donald Lewis Impact Fund—Kelsey Troxell, Emily Stottlemyer, Joshua Valentine, and Kai Ridenour; Donald P. Dougherty, Jr. Memorial Fund – Addison Oldham and Addison Kaas; Thurmont High School Alumni Scholarship—Olivia Baker, Ben Harbaugh, and Jasmine Halstead.

Anniversary classes recognized this year were: Class of 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, and 1971. 

Gail Slezak was recognized as teacher. Agriculture and FFA members were also recognized.

There was a time of silence for the deceased members. Many thanks to all who contributed to the association by supporting the raffles, the silent auction, the pie raffle, the basket raffle, and those contributing to the Scholarship Funds.

The oldest member attending was Frank Valentine (94 years). Person attending coming from the longest distance was Jerry Moser from Tucson, Arizona.

The Officers were announced as President Ron Pearcey (‘64), Vice President Rusty Hauver (‘65), Treasurer Becky Linton (‘58), and Secretary Viola Noffsinger (‘58). There was a plea for someone with experience in Microsoft Excel to take the treasurer’s position.

Next year’s Thurmont High School Alumni Banquet date is Saturday, June 5, 2027, at the Rocky Ridge venue.
