Another Successful Spring for Catoctin Rec Softball
Catoctin Rec Council (CRC) Softball wrapped up a very successful spring thanks to some of the best weather in memory. This year, CRC fielded teams at all age groups: 8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U, with over 80 girls from the area. Our teams played groups throughout the Frederick County Girls Softball League, including Middletown, Carroll Manor, Urbana, Libertytown, Frederick, Walkersville, Araby, and LOUYAA.
On May 16, CRC had its fifth annual Hit-a-Thon family picnic at the Thurmont town park. It was a fun day of face painting, cornhole, good food, and the Hit-a-Thon itself. The girls competed in fun events for various prizes, from electronics to trips to gift cards. The event raised over $9,000, which will be used to upgrade and maintain our fields.
The winners of the Hit-a-Thon were: 8U Distance Winners — 1st Place–Emerson Rickerd, 2nd Place–Lillean Reall, 3rd Place–Remi Nusbaum; 10U Distance Winners — 1st Place–Clarabelle Despeaux, 2nd Place–Kinsey Bowlus, 3rd Place–Claire Myers; 12U Distance Winners — 1st Place–Brantley Miesner, 2nd Place–Sophia Sanders, 3rd Place–Cassie Click; 15U Distance Winners — 1st Place–Presley Brantner, 2nd Place–Emily Roberts, 3rd Place–Haylee Nuse.
Overall Sponsor Winners were: 1st Place — Maryn Bowlus (selected a two-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge with her family); 2nd Place — Lillean Reall (selected a $250 Amazon gift card); 3rd Place — Adalyn Eaves (selected a $150 Amazon gift card).
In the post-season, CRC competed in three of the four available County Championships. The Despeaux 10U team placed second in the Gold level Championship. The Hagberg 10U team won the Silver Championship, and the Randall 15U team won the Gold Championship.
