Thurmont Senior Center

Summer is in full swing at the Thurmont Senior Center, and July is shaping up to be a month filled with friendship, fun, learning, and community spirit.
Whether you’re looking to stay active, enjoy a delicious lunch with friends, or participate in one of our many social activities, there’s something for everyone at the center.
Our regular schedule continues throughout the month with Strength & Balance classes, Chair Yoga, Chair Dancing, Stitch & Chat, cards and games, Craftin’ in the Catoctins, and our popular 50/50 Bingo afternoons. We are also excited to continue offering free Zumba Gold classes every Friday morning throughout the summer, thanks to a grant from the Frederick County Community Foundation. Zumba Gold is a great way to stay active while enjoying music and movement in a welcoming environment.
One of the highlights of the month will be our Potluck Lunch and General Meeting on Wednesday, July 22, at noon. Following lunch, we are pleased to welcome the talented Todd Williams in Concert at 1:00 p.m. Todd’s performances are always entertaining, and we invite members and guests to stay after the potluck for an afternoon of great music, laughter, and fellowship. Be sure to sign up for the potluck, and bring your favorite dish to share.
This month, we are also proud to highlight a meaningful addition to our grounds: the newly created Memorial Garden, dedicated in loving memory of Ken and Marilyn Oland, two cherished members who are missed dearly every day. The garden serves as a peaceful place of reflection and remembrance, honoring not only Ken and Marilyn but also the many friends and fellow members of the Thurmont Senior Center who have departed over the years. Surrounded by flowers and thoughtful landscaping, the garden stands as a beautiful reminder of the friendships, kindness, and lasting impact these individuals had on our center community.
Families and friends who wish to honor a loved one may purchase a memorial plaque to be added to the garden. Plaques provide a lasting tribute and help us continue to grow and maintain this special space. Anyone interested in purchasing a plaque or learning more about the Memorial Garden is encouraged to contact the Thurmont Senior Center.
Additional July activities include Manicure Mondays, a presentation from the Maryland Insurance Administration, a visit from the Department of Aging, patriotic-themed and seasonal craft projects, and a special lecture presented by FCPL about the Maryland Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
As always, the Thurmont Senior Center welcomes adults, ages 55 and older. Lunch is served daily at noon (reservations are required). We invite you to stop by, make new friends, and discover why the Thurmont Senior Center is truly “Where Friends Gather.”
For more information about activities, membership, lunch reservations, or memorial plaques, please contact the Thurmont Senior Center. We look forward to seeing you in July!
