Thurmont Senior Center

 by Tara Miller

February always feels like a month of connection here at the Thurmont Senior Center. Even with winter still hanging on, our building stays warm with conversation, laughter, and the comfort of familiar faces. Every day, I’m reminded that this center is more than a place to gather; it’s a community.

Our regular activities continue to be the heartbeat of the center. We stay busy with games, crafts, cards, and puzzles, along with our popular Strength & Balance classes that help keep us moving and feeling our best. Bingo, group lunches, and special programs give us something to look forward to throughout the week. Whether someone comes in daily or just once in a while, there’s always a welcoming smile waiting at the door.

We’re also pleased to host an informative discussion on all things Long-Term Care on Friday, February 6, at 12:30 p.m. This session is purely educational and designed to help answer questions and provide clarity around long-term care options and planning. There is no sales pitch, just straightforward, helpful information for anyone who wants to learn more or plan ahead.

This February, we’re excited to try something brand new: our first-ever Winter Olympic Party, happening Friday, February 13, at 12:30 p.m. This lively afternoon will feature themed activities, friendly competition, and plenty of laughter. It’s all about having fun, cheering each other on, and enjoying the winter spirit together. You don’t have to be an athlete to participate; just bring your sense of humor and your love of good company.

In addition to our daily programming, the Thurmont Senior Center is also available to rent for weekend events. Our space is perfect for birthday parties, family gatherings, meetings, and small celebrations. If you’re looking for an affordable, welcoming venue right here in town, we’re happy to share details about availability and rental options.

As always, new faces are welcome. If you’ve been thinking about stopping by, February is a great time to do it. Come see what makes the Thurmont Senior Center such a special place. We’d love to share a game, a program, or our first Winter Olympics celebration with you. We look forward to seeing you soon.
