Area Students Reach Out to Neighbors

November was truly a harvest month for the Thurmont Food Bank. Many groups helped bring in food during the difficult times caused by the government shutdown and the SNAP (Food Stamp) reductions and delays.

Special thanks go to our area youth for stepping up and helping! The Thurmont Scout Troops brought in over 6,400 items during their Scouting for Food Drive. Scouts, their parents, and leaders not only collected food, but they also helped sort and organize it for distribution.

Thurmont Primary and Thurmont Elementary Schools worked together on a food drive that brought in a full carload of much-needed food. And Catoctin High School had a food drive that brought in 596 items.

Special thanks to FCCLA, Mr. Torrado’s Leadership Class at CHS, and to all the Scouts, parents, leaders, students, and staff who helped fill the shelves during a time when many households needed assistance.

In addition to the youth, there were several churches and groups that donated food for Thanksgiving. Over 225 turkeys and bags of side dish items were distributed this year. Thank you, everyone!
