American Legion Post 168, Thurmont

Fun fact brought to you by our Commander Debra Middendorff: Add M&M’S to the list of amazing things brought to us by the United States Military. The candies were invented in 1941 as a military ration. Their hard candy shell is designed to keep the chocolate inside from melting, making them perfect for foxhole consumption. Mars Chocolate began selling M&M’S to the public in 1947, and the candy has been an American favorite ever since.

The Legion is busy preparing for one of our biggest events of the year: Octoberfest. If you are a member of the Legion, SAL, or Auxiliary, there are so many ways you can volunteer: set up on Friday, take down on Sunday, or man the Bake Sale Table and Beer Garden. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work,” so let’s all pitch in and work together! If interested in helping, reach out to the officers of the Legion, call the Legion and leave a message at 301-271-4411, or send an email to thurmontlegionaux168@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!

The Armed Forces Bus Tour will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The bus will depart from the Thurmont American Legion at 7:30 a.m. We will visit Arlington Cemetery, War Memorials, Wreath Ceremony, and Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Veterans are free; non-Veterans is $25.00. Lunch is included. To be a part of this, stop by the Legion and see the bartender for the sign-up sheet or call 304-620-2070.
