Thurmont Senior Center

by Kristen Bodmer

Come into the Thurmont Senior Center and beat the scorching heat of August. We have lots of fun activities going on here.

August is full of activities. Take the opportunity to take a look at the calendar of events we have scheduled. You can find our calendar on www.thurmontseniorcenter.org, on Facebook,  or drop by the center and ask for one.  Don’t forget, we serve lunch every day at noon; if you are not able to stay, you can just pick up your lunch. We have quite a few people who pick up lunch from the center now. Just remember to call the day before or by 9:15 the morning of.

If you are walking by the center on the ledge of the front of the building, you will see a caterpillar of rocks. We would love for you to add to our rock caterpillar to see how much it can grow.

July was a fun-filled month. We had three exciting bingos this month. We would love for you to join us for some fun and fellowship. Come in for a free balance and strength exercise session on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, beginning at 11:00 a.m.. We play Pinochle on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., as well as Bunko on the second Thursday of the month and Farkle on the fourth Thursday of the month. We also play Bingo every first and third Wednesday of the month (if there is a fifth Wednesday in the month, we hold a special Bingo). Enjoy some special homemade treats during halftime.

On Fridays, we have Zumba class and Poker. We also have a whole corner dedicated to exercise: two treadmills and a recumbent bicycle, all for use during our hours, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no charge to use this equipment.

Love coffee? Drop by the center for what we are told is the best coffee!

We really love having the community use the center.  There are so many different possibilities to use the center for special events.  The price is very affordable. Call the Thurmont Senior Center to rent for your next event.

As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.

Just a reminder that some activities may have a minimal cost, but joining the center is free.
