Mother’s Day Decorated Pot with a Plant

Who doesn’t love plants? Add to that, a plant that is planted in a pot that was decorated by a child or grandchild. This is an easy, fun activity for the kids, and it’s a great Mother’s Day gift for Mom (or Grandma or a favorite aunt)! You can buy the clay pots at any craft store. To decorate the pot, you can use paint markers (Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers or any paint pens that you like) or you can use paints. Acrylic paint is the best choice for clay pots. It’s a plastic-based paint that won’t flake off the flower pot. Of course, the paint markers/pens are practically mess-free, so this can save a lot of clean-up time! Additionally, paint markers/pens offer the control that a paintbrush does not, so it’s easier for kids’ creativity to shine. When my daughter was in 4th grade, she painted/decorated a flower pot for me for Mother’s Day, which I still have! It had bumblebees all over it. She used her thumb, which she dipped into yellow paint, and then pressed it all over the pot for the bee’s body. Then, she added the eyes (using dots), the antennae, and the stripes on the bee’s body with a black paint marker.
