Thurmont Senior Center
by Kristen Bodmer

Winter has set in, but don’t let the cold weather get you down. Come in and spend some time with us, warming up with good coffee, tea, and fellowship.
February is full of activities. Call the center or check online to get an updated calendar for our lunches and activities for this month. We always have fun things planned and would love to have you come out. Take the opportunity to take a look at the calendar of events we have scheduled. You can find our calendar on the website at thurmontseniorcenter.org, on Facebook, or by coming into the center and asking for one. Also, check out the Community Calendar in this issue.
January was a fun-filled month. Mayor Kinnaird came and gave us a presentation of the History of Thurmont through photos, which was amazing. We are having our monthly birthday parties again. They will be held on the third Friday of each month, so come in and have cake and ice cream and celebrate with us. We had two great bingos. We stretched and exercised, we played Farkle, Hand and Foot, Pinochle, and Poker. We laughed and everyone had a great time. We also had coffee, tea, and goodies galore. You just never know how much fun you can have. We would love for you to join us for some fun and fellowship.
We have free balance and strength exercise sessions daily, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. We play Pinochle on Tuesday, and we play Bunko on the second Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m., as well as Farkle on the fourth Thursday at 1:00 p.m. We hold Bingo every first, third, and fifth Wednesday of the month. It is always a fun time, full of laughter and special homemade treats at halftime. We are told by many that our coffee is the best, so come in and try a cup with us. On Fridays, we have Zumba, and we also offer Poker. The third Thursday of the month is a Veterans Coffee, where Veterans and their families can come and enjoy some coffee, snacks, and fellowship with other Veterans. Marie Free offers seated massage on the third Thursday of the month for only $1.00 per minute (first come, first served). We now have a treadmill, a recumbent bicycle, and an elliptical for use daily at no cost. Just a reminder that some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
The Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent for different activities as well, like perhaps a baby shower, a birthday party, or a bridal shower.
We are a 501(c)3 organization that does not get county funding. We rely on donations, grants, and fundraisers. We are so very thankful for those who have been so generous to us. We could use donations of water, soda, and snacks if you would like some suggestions.
As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.
