Mount St. Mary’s Students Volunteer at First Fruits Farm to Help Families in Need
Mount St. Mary’s University Knott Scholar joined First Fruits Farm in Freeland, Maryland. First Fruits Farm is a non-profit farm that, using a volunteer workforce, donates the resulting fresh produce to organizations serving needy families and individuals in their community.
The Mount sent their Knott Scholarship recipient students to serve alongside First Fruit Farm to help serve out their mission. The Mount’s Center for Service also integrates students in service to the local community. As a part of the Center for Service’s Common Good Initiative program, students serve with community partners, charities, and non-profits for the length of a semester to serve.
This year, Mount students were partnered with Frederick Food Bank, Frederick Community Table, Good Soil Farm, and Carrier Pigeon Post, among others.
