American Legion Post 168, Thurmont
A great time was had by all on Veterans Day during the Armed Forces Bus Tour. The tour included Arlington Cemetery, War Memorials, and Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with a Wreath Ceremony.
The Auxiliary would like to thank all the Veterans who attended the Veterans luncheon on November 16. We served 28 Veterans. This is a small token of appreciation, but nothing compares to your sacrifice.
Membership dues for 2025 should be paid by December 31, 2024, for your cards to stay active. Remember, pay dues and get your card all in one stop.
Mark your calendars for one more Pop-Up Shops on December 7 and 8; Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 14; and Ham & Turkey Night on December 20. The Legion will be closed on December 24 and 25.
How does the Military Celebrate the Holidays? Check out the website at www.defense.gov/Multimedia/Experience/Holiday-Troop-Traditions/ to find out some interesting history—I was impressed. Here are a few teasers: Tracking Santa—it started as a fluke; Operation Christmas Drop; Toys for Tots; Yuletide Jumps; Operation Santa Claus; and Maritime Merriment.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
