69th Annual Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show Coming in September

Cheryl Lenhart

As the gardening season has begun, remember that it’s a great time to start planning for your entries for the Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show—Maryland’s largest community show! The show will be held Friday through Sunday, September 5-7, at Catoctin High School. The event started 69 years ago with the intent to highlight agriculture, which is a strong part of our community’s heritage.

The show offers residents who live in the Catoctin feeder area the opportunity to showcase their best vegetables, fruits, flowers, arts and crafts, sewing, photography, and baked products, just to name a few. The show offers adult and youth categories, and judges determine the best from each category, who are then awarded ribbons at the show, with premium checks being mailed to the winning exhibitors after the show. A display of champions and reserve champions is placed near the center of the gymnasium on tables for everyone to see.

So, as you plant your garden flowers, or if you are working on a craft, painting, photography, or sewing project, consider entering your items in the Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show. There is no fee to enter exhibits, and there is no admission to attend the event.

Look for community show books with details on all the categories and requirements at local businesses in the community in late July. Entries can be submitted at the school on Thursday evening, September 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., as well as on Friday morning, September 5, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the gymnasium and the agriculture department area of the school.
