“5 Guys and a Pi” Contest Raises Funds for Charity

Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont hosted the 5 Guys and a Pi Contest on Pi Day, March 14, to benefit a non-profit of the winner’s choice.

In the running were several well-known faces around Thurmont:

Thurmont Police Chief Dave Armstrong – Supporting Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

Commissioner Bill Blakeslee – Supporting Thurmont Food Bank.

Jerry Free – Supporting Scout Troop 270.

Commissioner Wayne Hooper – Supporting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Mayor John Kinnaird – Supporting Thurmont Food Bank.

Community members cast their votes for $1.00 each at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant, Weis Markets, and the Thurmont Town Office, rallying behind their favorite contestants and charities.

At precisely 3:14 p.m., the winner was revealed in true Pi Day spirit. Pastor Sally Joyner-Giffin of the Thurmont Food Bank announced the victor by playfully delivering a cream pie straight to Commissioner Bill Blakeslee’s face!

In total, the event raised $1,054, all of which will be donated to the Thurmont Food Bank, Blakeslee’s chosen charity. Adding to the generosity, Catoctin Colorfest, Inc. made an additional contribution of $2,054, making a remarkable impact on the local food bank.The 5 Guys and a Pi Contest not only brought laughter and friendly competition, but it also showcased the spirit of giving in Thurmont.
