the Grange Community Citizenship
Award at their December meeting. I

in this community, as well as the
many kind words shared about my
role in library services in Thurmont
since 1987. Of course, I couldn’t do

The library is happy to announce
we are going to be one of two
locations for the Glade Valley
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
(VITA) team to provide free
assistance to prepare 2017 income
tax returns.
Appointments are required and
will be accepted beginning Monday,
January 22. Call 301-845-0042,
Monday through Friday, from 9:00
a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Assistance will be provided by
experienced, IRS-certified volunteers
at two locations: (1) Walkersville
Town Hall, 21 W. Frederick Street,
on Wednesdays, from 9:30 a.m.-4:00
p.m., beginning January 31, 2018, in
the second floor Community Room
(elevator available); (2) Thurmont
Regional Library, 76 E. Moser Road,
on Fridays, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00
p.m., beginning February 2, 2018,
in the large Community Room. Both
locations are handicap accessible.
Income and other restrictions
apply. Call for details, directions, and
information on what documents to
bring. Photo ID and Social Security
documents are mandatory to verify
identification. Appointments are
available on Wednesdays, through
April 4, 2018, and Fridays, through
April 6, 2018. Call early to ensure
appointment availability.

exhibit, and disseminate the history
and culture of African Americans
in Frederick County. They will be
presenting a special history program
at the library on Tuesday, February
20, at 7:00 p.m. The program will
explore this rich, historical thread
that weaves throughout our local
history.
Featured Teen Programs Grades 6-12
Teen Art Academy will take place
on January 8-9, at 1:00 p.m. Learn
printmaking and stamping techniques
to create a masterpiece.
On Thursday, January 11, at
5:30 p.m., come to Tinkercad: Learn
the basics of Tinkercad to create
a design. Come back on Saturday,
January 13 to 3D print your design!
The Wii Winter Party will be held
Thursday, January 18, at 2:30 p.m.,
featuring contests and treats.
Steampunk Day is on Sunday,
February 4, at 1:30 p.m., featuring
steampunk-themed crafts and
activities and Japanese animated film.
