As I write this, snow is in the
forecast for tomorrow—winter is
truly here! It’s a perfect time to
gather at the library with neighbors
to celebrate the coming holidays.
There are many wonderful and not-
to-be-missed events and programs
this December happening at the
library.
Enjoy our Holly Jolly event on
December 1. As just one stop on
the “Christmas in Thurmont” tour,
you can get your passport stamped,
listen to the lovely Frederick Hand
Bell Choir at the library at 11:00
a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and then hear
The Night Before Christmas read
by the gentleman himself, Santa
Claus, at 1:00 p.m.! Kids can do a
take-away craft all day, and be sure
to bring your cameras for a photo-
op with the jolly guy.
With the popularity of Ancestry
DNA tests and the “Finding Your
Roots” television show, genealogy
is popular again. Find out how
to discover your own roots from

our resident expert, Mary Mannix
of the FCPL Maryland Room, on
December 3 from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
With her long experience and
extensive knowledge about local
history and genealogy resources,
both in print and online, Mary will
answer your questions and give you
tips to kickoff your family history
quest.
Teens (grades 6-12) are invited
to the Harry Potter Party to
celebrate the new movie and
all things Potter. Costumes are
encouraged, but not required. This
event will take place on December 5
