Community Park. Charles was
born on June 2, 1936, to Arnold
and Dorothy Angell, on their
farm in Rocky Ridge, known as
“High Germany.” Soon after the
Angell family moved to Thurmont,
Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army.
After two years, he then served
in the U.S. Reserves until 1963.
During that time, Charles met his “Angel,” Lillian Lewis. The couple married
on May 16, 1957, and have resided in Thurmont together ever since.
After Charles served his military service, Charles opened “Angell’s Snack
Bar, Billiards and Vending” with his brother Roy (Pete). In later years, that
first venture was then reopened as Angell’s Family Restaurant.
The Angell family also purchased the corner building located at Church
and East Main Street that was once the “Gilbert Hotel” (during the Civil War
Era), and then in later years, was known as “Shappy’s,” owned by Shapiros.

enjoy spending time with their family, including three children—Charles B.
