Optimist Club of Frederick Holds Annual Cornhole 4 A Cause
Annual Fish with a Cop Program Tournament Fundraiser Benefits
The Optimist Club of Frederick held its seventh annual Fish with a Cop Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
program on Saturday May 28, 2016, at the Camp Airy pond in Thurmont.
There were twenty-one boys and girls from across Frederick County who took
part in the program. Officers from Maryland State, Frederick City, Brunswick, Cornhole 4 A Cause Tournament
Thurmont, and the Department of Natural Resources Police participated in (left) First Place winners, Doug G.

The officers picked up the children from their homes and transported them (below) Second Place winners, Denny
to the pond. They were then given a Zebco combo rod and reel along with M and Mike K.
tackle from the Optimist Club. The officers and club members worked with
the kids to help them develop or further their fishing skills. When the fishing
was done, the Optimist Club held a cookout and fish fry for the children and
officers. The officers then took the children back home.
The following sponsors contributed to this program: Giant Foods;
Maryland DNR for stocking the pond; Camp Airy for use of their pond

Tournament fundraiser at the Emmitsburg Community Park. Thirty teams
participated! They raised a total of $1,578 at the fundraiser, which was raised
through a Long Shot Toss competition, a large raffle, a 50/50, silent auctions,
tip jars, and tournament entry fees. Proceeds will benefit the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society.
Cornhole Tournament winners were: First Place went to Jim Beam—Kevin
M. and Doug G., who went undefeated; Second Place went to Long Time
Coming—Mike K. and Denny M.; Third Place went to The Truckers—Todd
and Josh.
Special thanks to Barkers 4 Blood Cancer teammates Morgan Dempsey,
Tracie Lee, Sue Reid, and Kelly Reid, and to the volunteers who helped before
and during the event, including Mary Dewees, Harvey Dewees, Peggy Dewees,
Shannon Cool, Kim Foreman, Jenni Ryan, Eric Dempsey, Fran Dempsey, Tyler
Dempsey, Jacob Fisher, Jeff Ridenour, Tami Hardesty, and Justin Threatt.
