The Thurmont Lions Club reached out to host an unusual fundraiser ads @ thecatoctinb anner .com
for Lions Vision Research Foundation (LVRF). A 50’s Sock Hop was held
at the Thurmont Senior Center on July 21, 2018, which was opened to the
community. A wonderful menu was served. Several of the ladies wore their
poodle skirts and 50’s attire, making you feel as though you were back in the
good old days. The man of the evening, the fabulous DJ Paul Echard, had a
great selection of 50’s music and many attendees had a great time dancing the
evening away. An appropriate door prize of fifteen CDs, containing the 50’s
music of the evening, was donated by DJ Paul Echard. The club raised $500
for LVRF.
In May 1988, delegates at the MD-22 convention approved the
establishment of the LVRF. The LVRF supports the Wilmer Eye Institute at
Johns Hopkins Medical in the areas of low vision: Research, Education, and
Clinical Service.
The Thurmont Lions Club is a group of community-minded men and
women who come together to enjoy each other’s company, hear interesting
programs, and raise funds for important local or vision-related activities. They
meet at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the
Mountain Gate Restaurant in Thurmont. For more information, visit www.
thurmontlionsclub.com or call 301-788-0855.
