AMVETS Because We Care Day
Sponsored by AMVETS Post 7,
Thurmont
AMVETS (American Veterans), a premier Veteran’s service organization,
will be distributing personal hygiene kits to their comrades at the Martinsburg
VA Medical Center on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
AMVETS volunteers provided over 110,000 hours of service at (100) VA
Medical Centers, all across America in 2016. Based on the Independent Sector
formula for calculating the value of volunteer hours, AMVETS has provided
over $4,500,000 worth of services to the government in helping to provide
quality care for our nation’s heroes.
Commander Ed Superczynski of AMVETS Post 7 said, “Because We Care
Day is our way of saying ‘thanks’ for their service and sacrifices made to keep
our country free.”
Because We Care Day is an effort sponsored by AMVETS to honor and
recognize hospitalized American Veterans, who daily face personal battles
against illness, pain, and loneliness, while receiving medical treatment away
from their home and loved ones.
AMVETS Post 7 also conducts local community programs, such as
providing camaraderie and activities for residents in local senior living centers,
supporting local youth groups, and supporting a local program to help
homeless Veterans gain independent living and work skills.
A leader since 1944 in preserving the freedoms secured by America’s Armed
Forces, AMVETS provides not only support for Veterans and the active
military in procuring their earned entitlements, but also community services
that enhance the quality of life for this nation’s citizens.
