Being a Girl Scout Leader is exciting! Making an impact on a young girl’s
journey in life is a rewarding result of being a leader. Parents are always
encouraged to become volunteers.
One father in the Maize Meadow Service Unit 37-4 in Frederick County,
has been a volunteer parent in his daughter’s troop for the past seven years.
He also volunteers on the Service Unit level. He wears many hats: first-aider,
taxi driver, assistant, and volunteer and camping certified. He wears these
many volunteer hats because he enjoys spending time with his wife, who is
a Troop Leader, and his daughter, who is a Girl Scout—what better reason?
By volunteering, he is able to attend encampments, go camping with his
family, and assist in community service activities. He is able to be a part of his
daughter’s life-journey while being a positive role model for other Girl Scouts
along the way. Not only is he an active Girl Scout volunteer, he is a full-time
Battalion Chief 902 for Frederick County EMS.
Paul “Doug” Wallick was unanimously selected out of all the volunteers
in the Maize Meadow Service Unit 37-4 in Frederick County to receive the
Volunteer of Excellence Award.
