A pendent bronze
on limpid azure
the harvest moon
slow climbs the eastern sky
bathing all the landscape
bright as almost day;
acorn trees and shellbark
in solemn silhouette
stark stand and tall and silent
while their drowsy leaves
slow punctuate the rising mist.
Anon the apple trees and cornfields,
transformed in platinum,
shimmer in the stillness
hemmed by darker hedgerows
gnarled oak and shagbark--
the harvestplace at night.
