HOLIDAYS & HAPPY
“We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Foundation and its
scholarship program,” said Sandy Wieber, spokesperson for the Farm Credit NEW YEAR
Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. The non-profit Foundation was
formed in 2015, funded by participating association MidAtlantic Farm
Credit.
“Farm Credit is celebrating their centennial in 2016,” says Wieber. “Farm
Credit has supported agriculture and rural Americans for 100 years, and in
honor of that, we wanted to create a resource that would continue to support
the industry far into the future. Pledging $100,000 is a great way for us to
celebrate our centennial.”
“The future of agriculture is a bright one,” added Ralph Robertson,
a Maryland farmer and chairman of the Foundation’s board. “There are
more career paths in the industry today than ever before, and we’re excited
to see students explore these options. If we can help them achieve their
dream of working in agriculture, whether as a farmer, a food scientist, or a
veterinarian, we’re happy to do so.”
The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement’s scholarship
program will award ten scholarships in 2017, each valued at $10,000. This
program is open to high school seniors or students currently enrolled in a
two- or four-year educational program. The applicants must be planning
to pursue a career in agriculture and reside in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s
five-state territory. For a complete list of eligible counties, please see
FCFoundationforAg.org.
