new Federally Supported Grant Program Seeks Volunteers
Fifty-five and Older in Frederick County
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through its partner agencies, provides a variety of volunteer
service opportunities for older adults. If you are interested in these opportunities or not sure how you would like to
contribute your time and talents, contact RSVP. They’ll match your skills and experience with an opportunity that suits
you.
Transportation is a critical need for older adults who no longer drive, but want to stay in their own homes and live
independently. Through Partners in Care, volunteers enable those in need to stay “connected” to the services they need.
Become a member of Partners in Care and help when you are available.
A nonprofit agency is looking for a retired professional with office management expertise to analyze their
operations and recommend improvements in data collection and record keeping, as well as operations efficiencies and
responsiveness to local residents.
Have you ever wanted to know more about Medicare, Medigap policies, and the most appropriate prescription plan
choices for retirees? The Department of Aging is gearing up for Medicare Part D open enrollment (October 15-December
7), and will offer training sessions beginning in late September for individuals willing to help seniors and their caregivers
make informed choices about their health coverage. Join the team of dedicated State Health Insurance Assistance
Program (SHIP) volunteers, providing assistance during open enrollment and year round.
Volunteer to help at the Frederick Health Fair, to be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Frederick Fairgrounds,
from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. If you would like to assist with patient registration, help with event setup, parking or
transporting homebound individuals, or helping with data entry or food service, contact RSVP.
Are you associated with a homeowners association, church group, or community association? RSVP is recruiting
volunteers to be lay health educators through Frederick Memorial Hospital’s (FMH) “Bridges” program. Training is
provided by FMH, begins in October, and consists of ten sessions.
Frederick County Department of Aging’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman advocates for the rights of residents of all
long-term care facilities in the county. The Ombudsman program is seeking volunteers interested in visiting residents,
taking their pets to visit, and advocating for residents who cannot speak for themselves. The State Office of Long-Term
Care Ombudsman provides training for volunteers interested in improving the quality of life of elderly residents and
residents with disabilities.
Contact RSVP of Frederick County at 301-600-7900 or e-mail [email protected] to learn more about available
volunteer opportunities.
RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation. Established in 1971, RSVP engages Americans age fifty-
five and older in a diverse range of volunteer activities. While serving, volunteers also improve their own lives by staying
active and civically engaged. Individuals choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments
ranging from a few hours to forty hours per week. For more information, visit their website at aacfmd.org/program/rsvp.
