CriswellMany who pass by the local Chevrolet dealer on a daily basis still think of it as Bogley’s Chevrolet. For many years, Gene Bogley and family built a reputation for putting the community in their daily drive. Some people while making their daily commute may not have yet noticed some of the changes that have been made. Window shoppers who may have previously dealt with the Bogley family will now be greeted by the smiling face of Gary Moser, manager of the new Criswell Chevrolet of Thurmont.

Gary re-opened the doors of the dealership under Criswell on October 4, 2013. Many recognize the name of Criswell, known for their enormous auto dealership located in Gaithersburg and Germantown, Maryland. Criswell in Gaithersburg currently stocks hundreds of new and used vehicles from Chevrolet, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, and FIAT. They are also the largest Chevrolet dealership in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.  Criswell in Germantown carries Honda, Nissan, and Maserati. The new location in Thurmont will exclusively be a Chevrolet dealership.

Gary’s career in the auto business has come full circle. He is a Catoctin High School graduate and a lifelong resident of Thurmont. From 2003 to 2004, he was a salesman for Bogley. Gary then went to Gettysburg to work with his dad, Gary Moser, Sr., manager of Renn Kirby Chevrolet. Later, he took a position with Criswell in Gaithersburg and has made the haul to Montgomery County for the past five years. Gary was asked, “Do you drive a Chevy? His response was, “Of course! Chevy has put a roof over my family’s head.”

Gary has some concerns. “The town may have the perception that Criswell came in and cleaned house, and that’s not true.” Fortunately, Criswell didn’t make any drastic changes to the familiar dealership. When Gary began, there was the salesman/owner, two office staff, service/office manager and technician, all who agreed to stay on board as Criswell employees.

Growing the sales department at the Thurmont location is one goal, but the other focus is the service department. Gary immediately noticed that Greg, the sole mechanic, was swamped with work and asked how he could help. Greg quickly replied, “Hire more mechanics.” Gary plans on doing so to improve the turnaround time on vehicle repairs and maintenance.

Criswell carries over 600 new Chevrolets at the Gaithersburg location. Local customers can view vehicles online and have their pick of any sedan, hybrid, truck, or SUV. Criswell will be happy to deliver from Gaithersburg to the Thurmont location. Within the next three months, there will be nearly a hundred new and used vehicles spanning the over three-acre lot in Thurmont. Buyers can look forward to competitive pricing and a variety of financing plans that can get most anyone in the driver’s seat. Leasing is another option that will be offered by Criswell. “Leasing is ideal for anyone who may not want a higher payment, and wouldn’t be obligated with a vehicle for a long period of time,” Gary explained.

Criswell Chevrolet of Thurmont is also an authorized Chevy VOLT and Corvette dealer. The VOLT is one of the newest editions to the GM hybrid family, the only one powered by electricity with gasoline backup. Gary was proud to announce, “We will be the only dealer in the area to offer a VOLT charging station!” Best of all, a Volt buyer can return to the dealership and charge it at no cost. In the past year, Chevy has also redesigned the Silverado truck line and the classic Malibu sedan. Looking for a commercial truck or van? You’ll find them here, too. Criswell will have it all. Stop in and take a peak at Criswell’s line up. The car lot is always open to do a drive-through, or stop in during the new extended office hours— Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Gary and his friendly staff are also available by calling 301-271-2456 or online at criswellauto.com.
